N-acetyl Cysteine (or NAC) is an anti-oxidant that helps fight free radicals that damage cells and contribute to premature aging. Amino acids are essential to the human body and aid in repair, and development of muscle tissue. Amino acids produce all the body's enzymes and help normalize emotions, concentration, sleep and sex drive. The body's health and its ability to function well is so dependent on amino acids that specific supplementation is strongly advised by many heath care professionals.
NAC is a more stable form of the amino acid L-Cysteine and is easily synthesized by the body. Cysteine is essential because it supports maintenance of protein structure, enzyme activity and energy metabolism. Deficiency in glutathione has been associated with atherosclerosis.
